Sacred History & Legend

Omkareshwar is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and stands on Mandhata island in the Narmada, whose shape is said to resemble the Om symbol. The temple is paired with the nearby Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga on the south bank. Pilgrims take a boat or the bridge to reach the island and often make a parikrama of the sacred hill.
